Justice for the body…Pilates for one and for all! Ken Endelman is the owner of Balanced Body. He is warm, friendly, approachable and quick to smile…quick to self deprecate. He is a man of his word. He is a family man. He is deeply protective. He is not to be bullied. Ken stood up in court (a lead voice among other co-defendants, like Deb Lessen) maintaining that Pilates was not to be trademarked by one person and set the course to change the lives of many people. As a direct consequence of their victory in court there are upwards of 8 million people in the world practicing Pilates and a reported 14,000 teachers teaching them*. When I started to write this essay about why I chose/choose Balanced Body (BB) I thought it would be this long list of why BB is great relative to the other national and internationally recognized programs. However after reading up on so many Pilates programs…geez…I wish I had the unlimited resources and time to study with many of them! Bottom line…many of the Pilates schools are teeming with inspired professionals looking to share the work of Joseph Pilates, to aid in quality of life. The Pilates Method…the epitome of functional, applicable fitness for every body. So instead my approach will be…with all due respect for so many of the other programs…to explain why as a discerning, educated, past middle-aged adult I choose to give of my ever-valuable time to Balanced Body and expect my clients to do the same?
